Beat the Odds: 5 Social Media Follower Growth Hacks 💪

Mar 12, 2019

These days, it seems like it’s harder than ever to grow your social media following. Don’t lose hope! Dealing with a plateau in your social media growth is normal, and many brands experience it at one point or another. While we’ve touched on this matter in a previous post, we thought we’d come back for round 2 and provide some more examples so that you can kick your social follower count into high gear!

Let’s get going!

1. Switch Up Your #Hashtag Strategy

As we all know, using the right hashtags at the right time can help get the conversation going! Hashtags are one of the most important tools for reaching your desired audience, so if you’ve been recycling the same hashtags and haven’t been seeing the results you want, it may be time to switch things up. Just remember, it’s always better to keep things specific in your hashtags, ie. no vague tags like #girlboss, which will just get clumped along with millions of other posts. Instead, try something like #TorontoGirlBoss, if your brand is all about making your female entrepreneurial mark in Toronto. That way, users interested in following #girlbosses that are specifically in Toronto will be able to find you easily! You’ll have tapped into your key audience. Keep it simple, but don’t be afraid to get creative. It’s all about experimenting!

2. Hold Contests & Giveaways

Thinking about holding a contest or giveaway? Awesome idea! Running a contest through your social platforms will help spread word about your brand and your initiatives. Giveaways are a popular option due to the fact that you can often collaborate with influencers or other brands in order to cross-promote products. When putting together a contest or giveaway, it’s key to add entry details, such as “tag two friends and make sure to follow our page!” This boosts engagement and overall gets more people talking about your brand.

3. Increase Your Insta Stories Posts

Insta Stories: our all-time favourite social media feature! There aren’t enough amazing things we can say about it. However, make sure to use it often! Adding to your Insta Stories throughout the day is proof to your audience and potential followers that you’re an active brand. You also have the ability to engage with your audience through Instagram Stories, especially with new features like polls and the customized question function! The more creative and interactive you are with your followers, the more likely they are to respond. Think of Stories as a channel for dual-communication: you and your audience can have a personal conversation through Insta Stories. #KEEPSOCIAL

4. Analyze The Competition

Make sure you know what you’re up against! One way to measure and boost your own success is by taking notes on what other companies in your brand’s space are doing well. Analyze what your competitors are doing through their own social media strategies. If you know something in particular is working for them, why not try it out yourself? This can be the types of content they post, the aesthetic they’re running with, and/or the hashtag strategy that they have in place. Having competition is healthy – it keeps you always looking to improve your own game!

5. Audit Your Own Content

Every few months, it’s a good idea to conduct a social media audit of your own content. Analyze your posts through an objective lens as best you can. Put yourself in your followers’ shoes. What do they want to see? Reevaluate your own content in terms of thinking like your followers, then come up with new content that you’re confident will speak directly to them. After all, users only follow accounts that give them the content they want and need! Our advice? Keep it simple. If you make your feed feel like work, people won’t play, no matter how good your offerings are!

‘Put out the kind of energy you want to attract’ is a popular ideology for a reason; the same goes for attracting a steadily increasing social media following!
