Clean Up The ‘Gram: Why It’s Time For You To Do An Instagram Audit

Aug 23, 2018

Happy Thursday! Michelle here, content creator at Serotina and I’m going to talk about something most of you probably aren’t doing often enough: Instagram auditing.

When was the last time you conducted a thorough Insta-cleanse? December 2017 when we blogged about it? As we all know, Instagram is a pivotal marketing tool for any business, so keeping your account updated and your engagement active is key to your business’s success.

Instagram auditing is all about making sure your social media account is performing as favourably as possible. While you may be seeing amazing results with your current Instagram habits and techniques, social media is in constant motion – and it’s important that you stay up-to-date. Almost daily, new marketing trends and features are introduced that you can implement into your social media strategy to #KEEPSOCIAL. After all, reevaluating and renewing your social accounts is integral to keeping to your marketing goals and can help skyrocket your brand to success.

So, why exactly is conducting a routine Instagram audit important?

Business goals & KPIs

What’s a KPI? A key performance indicator! You want to make sure your business goals are on-track. Analyze your Instagram account with your current marketing goals and KPIs in mind. What are your goals for your business? Is your account representative of those goals and the direction you want your business to go in?

Also, don’t be afraid to be critical: while you may be on top of your social media game, it’s key to remember that there are always things to be improved on! If you find that your current KPIs aren’t proving to be as profitable as you had anticipated, don’t be afraid to come up with new milestones to hit. Being objectively critical will help your business improve in the long run.

Brand awareness & voice

What’s the vision you have for your brand, and is your Instagram a solid representation of that? The key to establishing a strong brand image is maintaining a fun and consistent voice used across all of your social media channels. Analyze your accounts and ensure that they are an accurate extension of your brand and who you are.

Other important account aspects to analyze are your handle and bio. Does your handle properly describe the powerhouse that your brand is (or will be!)? Remember to keep it simple: usually using your brand’s name as your handle works best. In terms of bio, is your brand properly summarized and to the point? Remember to use straightforward terms, and that keeping a bio short is always a good idea! Anything that rambles on may confuse and disengage followers.

Content and aesthetic

Alright, let’s be honest – we all follow Instagram accounts based on what kind of aesthetically engaging content they provide. Every day, we consume the posts of the same influencers or accounts because they produce beautiful content that speaks to us, and that needs to be the goal for your content, too!

Take a look at your Instagram feed through an objective lens; for example, analyze the last 9 photos that you’ve posted. Are those photos visually similar in either photo subject, colour scheme, or otherwise? Potential followers need to discover your account and instantly get a sense for who you are, what you do, and what they can expect to keep seeing should they decide to follow you. Remember that Instagram is essentially an extension of your business, so make sure to put your company’s best face forward!

Instagram is one of your main channels for brand representation – make sure you’re optimizing it!
