How To Slay eCommerce: Shopping on Instagram Onward

Nov 13, 2018

If you run your own eCommerce business, you’re likely looking for ways to improve your marketing process – or at least, you should be. When it comes to the wonderful world of marketing, by now you’ve realized that nothing stays the same for long and the next best thing is always on its way up.

This much rings true particularly in terms of Instagram marketing techniques. This week we’ll show you a few new trend contenders in Instagram marketing to help you make the most of your business with just a few tricks!

Tip #1: Vertical Video

No longer is vertical a no-no! Shooting vertically is now being adapted and embraced by a variety of social media platforms, including Instagram.

When it comes to IG videos, those with the most engagement (translating into the most views) are typically those that are filmed vertically. Not only that, but businesses and brands are ditching horizontal shooting due to the fact that part of the frame usually gets cropped out when uploaded. Keep that in mind the next time you pick up your phone to grab some killer video content for social!

Tip #2: Instagrammable IRL Influencer Events

It’s common these days to see brands collaborate with high-status, industry-relevant influencers and organize elaborate events for influencers to attend. These events are always flawlessly executed in terms of aesthetics, keeping in mind that everything is designed to be featured on high-traffic social media accounts in all its curated glory.

But what’s the point of these events? To promote a brand or service, of course. Whether it’s a product launch or an influencer meetup, these events are all created in order to spread awareness about a brand and to make products appear more desirable. There’s a strategy involved behind which influencers to invite; brands want to ensure that they invite niche-relevant figures who will create gorgeous content, which inevitably lead to an increase in brand sales.

How do you adapt that to your eCommerce business? The next time you’re revealing a BIG piece of news (new product/product line, a new service) throw a launch party and reach out to the influencers you’ve had your eye on for a while who you believe would love your product/service! Don’t forget to throw in a little incentive for attendance (such as product sampler goodie bags) to really get the ball rolling 😉

Tip #3: Insta-Shopping

If you’ve been using Instagram lately, you’ll have noticed that many posts now have a little white shopping bag icon in the bottom left corner of their visual content. If you tap on the post, little text boxes appear with the name of the product being advertised as well as the product’s price. You know what that means… Instagram now allows you to shop directly in-app. GENIUS, right? We thought so.

Gone are the days of tediously typing “link in bio” into your content’s captions to direct followers to the selling page. This is a great way to advertise your products, as your followers are likely very interested in buying your products if they follow you in the first place – making their experience simpler by letting them spend money in-app just makes everyone’s lives easier!

In fact, if you visit a brand’s page and scroll through their grid, you’ll be able to tell which posts are exclusively trying to sell a product by a white shopping bag icon that appears in the top right corner of the posts. This makes it simple for followers to browse your products without having to visit your website.
