We hope you’ve had a warm and relaxing holiday season filled with tons of (spiked) eggnog shared with family and friends. Hopefully, by now you’re shaking off the remnants of the holiday celebrations and are getting ready to jump into the New Year headfirst.
Ready to kickstart your year the right way? With the New Year in full swing, it’s time to talk about which social media milestones you should aspire to hit to start 2019 off right!
1. Establish (Or Revise) Your Social Media Strategy
As we all know, having a social media strategy in place is the first step towards launching your business online and gaining traction. Essentially, a social media strategy is a game plan outlining your objectives for your business pertaining to social media efforts.
What are some things to focus on when creating or revising your social media strategy? Defining your social media goals is definitely the place to start. What do you intend to accomplish this year through your social media presence? Which platform would you like to increase engagement on? While it may seem like the obvious thing to do, having a clear idea in mind for goals to accomplish and a basic structured plan to follow will give your social media presence the extra power needed to generate more business for your brand.
2. Understand When To Use Which Social Platforms
Make it a goal this year to get to know your social media platforms better than ever before. As we all know, the social sphere is constantly in motion, with new features and updates being thrown into the mix nearly every day. Make it a priority to closely follow social media trends and to spend more time checking out the lesser-known features of your favourite platforms.
For example, we heard through the grapevine that IGTV may be coming to shake things up in 2019 to make up for its relatively weak debut in 2018… it’s time to familiarize yourself!
3. Capitalize on Humanistic Connection
We’re all human. The content that we are likely to connect with online are typically images or information that speak directly to our own personal values – and the same is true for your audience. By creating and sharing more original content through your social platforms, you’ll keep your audience engaged and your business will surely benefit.
How can you achieve this? For starters, know your audience inside and out. Put yourself in their shoes and try to imagine what you would like to see if you were them. Chances are, you wouldn’t want to be bombarded with promotional/shoppable posts every time your favourite brand posts something new. In the New Year, be strategic about when you post deliberately promotional content. Maintain a natural flow to your social feed and integrate a promo when appropriate – but at the end of the day, know that your audience is attracted to the overall vibe and voice of your brand, so make sure to strengthen that in 2019!
Another thing to keep in mind (as always) is to #KEEPSOCIAL! Make sure that you respond to your business account’s DMs, comments, and shoutouts. If your followers are giving giving you online recognition, show them you’re thankful for their support and their voice!
