TGIF everyone! 🎉 This is Michelle, Serotina’s content creator and today we’re going to tackle a tough question many of you have probably struggled with before: what is the best kind of content to post on Instagram to properly represent your brand?
Figuring out what to post can be tricky business. Do you stick to aesthetically similar content, or is it better to shake things up and post diverse, time-sensitive content to remain up-to-date with current events and trends? Read on to explore the benefits of maintaining a consistent overall Instagram account aesthetic vs. diverse posts!
Consistent aesthetic
When curating your content, it’s crucial to be thoughtful, plan out your content, and be consistent. Many businesses choose to go with a streamlined aesthetic: routinely posting content that is aesthetically similar, either based on a consistent colour scheme or a particular theme. Posting content with a uniform aesthetic helps create a standard for your feed that is instantly recognizable to your current audience and helps attract new followers.
For example, female empowerment brand The Female Hustlers (@thefemalehustlers) posts content that is instantly recognizable as pertaining to their brand. Alternating between solid-coloured posts with quotes and headshots of inspiring boss babes with quotes, followers can tell right away that it’s The Female Hustlers’ content without even glancing at the account handle. By creating consistency in content aesthetic, the content becomes branded and followers know what to expect in the future.
Post Diversity
Depending on your brand, posting diverse content can increase your following and create massive engagement. Brands who post varying content have the opportunity to play around with their content far more than brands with a dedicated Insta aesthetic. This allows you the freedom to cover a broader range of topics, potentially drawing in a more extensive audience.
For example, media and news company Vice’s (@vice) Instagram posts feature images associated with current events or stories they recently covered online. If you scroll through Vice’s feed, there is no aesthetic structure or any defining visual element screaming “Vice” – yet, they have 2M followers. In this instance, it’s not the style of the posts but rather the news factor that keeps their followers engaged and coming back for more. Diversity is valuable!
Which is better?
Once you break the cycle of posting images in the same colour hue or style by posting something out of brand character, that visual illusion you worked so hard to create is shattered. There are pros and cons to remaining loyal to one aesthetic, just as there are pros and cons to posting content with no continuous visual theme. While sticking to one visual theme can prove rewarding in terms of brand image, posting diverse content garners its own rewards by providing relevant, informative content that proves that your brand is on top of current affairs and trends.
